Thursday, 3 November 2016 16:04:23 Europe/London

Cardio Machines - Which is best?

Tuesday, 14 June 2016 12:07:00 Europe/London

Cardio is short for 'cardiovascular', a term used to describe the human circulatory system; it consists of the heart and blood vessels. Cardio training is a form of endurance-based exercise designed to strengthen the circulatory system. Cardio-vascular exercise usually takes place over a longer period of time, and is intended to make the heart beat faster and pump more blood through your system, which carries the vital nutrients and oxygen to muscle cells. Cardio exercises usually get your heart rate to around 50 - 75% of your maximum heart rate. A rough estimate to calculate your maximum is 220 minus your age, so, for example, if I'm 18, it's 220 - 18 = 202 Max. Cardio can be almost any form of exercise from running, cycling and dancing to treadmills, rowing machines and more!

What is it?

The theory is that, by performing exercises while a part of the body or the entire body is supported on an oscillating platform, the muscle receptors are stimulated in a way which makes them work harder, thereby intensifying the workout.

Tuesday, 15 December 2015 13:33:47 Europe/London

Health and fitness is a major preoccupation nowadays.  With the current emphasis on ‘looking good’, that’s not surprising and neither is it a bad thing, especially in a nation concerned with a rise in obesity. Unfortunately, we live in an age when there are many different demands on our time.  Inevitably, workouts have to compete with a variety of other activities.  In view of this, it’s tempting to skip the less enjoyable aspects of training, like stretching, in order to get to the stuff we like, such as lifting or cardio.
