Since I recommenced weight training earlier this year, I’ve been losing weight at a rate of approximately 1-2 lbs per week. That’s precisely what I was aiming for.

However, for the past couple of weeks or so, my 87-year old mother has been struggling with what we thought was sciatica. It turns out to have been a different injury, but that’s not the point of this piece. The point is that initially, I was acting as Mum’s carer, shopper, medicine collector, doctor arranger, etc. Eventually, she had to go into hospital and, since then, I’ve being trying to juggle my normal day-to-day activities around regular hospital visits.

My training has been on the back-burner – I just haven’t had time to do it. For the same reason, I’ve been eating more convenience foods. I know they’re not good, but they’re…well, convenient!

When I weighed at the weekend, I expected to find I’d put on a few pounds. And yet, it seems over this period, I’ve lost weight at a rate equating to 3 lbs/week!

I should add that I’ve been away from the office and have had very little time to sit in front of the PC at home. In other words, despite missing workouts and eating badly, I’ve lost more weight through living a less sedentary life than normal. ‘Says it all doesn’t it?

And, in case you’re wondering; no, this isn't a picture of me (see below)!
