Barbells for Hire

Barbells are steel or aluminium bars with knurled hand positions and the ability to put weight discs on either end, normally held in place by a collars. Customers hire a barbell when they need one for a short term event or photo shoot, and sometimes when the gym doesn’t have enough.

The weight discs can also be hired, and must be compatible with the barbell. Top quality barbells have ball bearings or needle bearings within the revolving ends, for ultimate smoothness and strength. They are also made or sprung steel, so that they do not bend permanently. Olympic weightlifting is possible with these.

Most 7ft Olympic barbells weigh 20kg but there are shorter ones, and lighter ones available made of aluminium.

Renting a barbell and weights makes sense if it is a top quality model as they can expensive. It may be necessary to hire a power rack or squat stand to ensure that you training area is a safe environment.

Some barbells come with weights already attached permanently to either end – these are called rubber barbells. This is more convenient although this system can be more bulky with a rack to hold them off the floor.

The exercises performed with a barbell include bench press, shoulder press, squats, deadlifts, lunges and core plate training.

There are other forms of barbell for hire, including a curl bar, sissy bar, tricep bar and shrug bar, all using the same principle of a bar with weights on either end.

Bodypump classes use lighter bars with rubber coating to create extra resistance when moving to music.
