Why we should all love winter training - and how to improve it.

As 2021 draws to a close, it’s inevitable that many of us will dread the shorter days, travelling in the dark and the higher risk of getting colds and flu - or even Covid 19. But for various reasons, it can be the ideal time to advance our fitness levels. It just needs to include a plan to train indoors more, even if we are keen runners or cyclists. So here are some tips to making the most of the next 3 months.

  • Although there are less light hours each day, the training time available for many of us increases. This is because in warmer months we spend more time gardening, socialising or on holiday - now, that time can be spent hitting the gym.

  • There is something very rewarding about moving into Spring with a good level of fitness (or weight loss) having put in the hard work during Winter. This can be a great motivator to train regularly - picture yourself in shorts and t shirt looking in great shape.

  • For those of us that have gym memberships, the fact that it is cold and dark outside will probably mean that we naturally visit the gym more. The trick is not to talk yourself out of it, however attractive an evening TV session might be. Perhaps alternate the two, treating the off-day as your reward for putting in the effort.

  • Not everyone goes to a gym, so having a training space at home is the ideal way to supplement any outdoor activities. There is some discipline involved, as it can be less engaging than being outside - so have music or a video playing, or join in with an online fitness class.

  • Finally, Christmas is just around the corner - what better gift than a 4 week hire of a treadmill or bike? And if you love it, there is the option to buy afterwards.

Fit Hire caters for both Domestic and Commercial sectors, so if your company, school or resident’s association is looking to fit out an indoor gym space, we would be happy to advise.
